Product Description |
| The Phoenix is life, and death, and all of the chaotic potential of the span between. Spawned in the elemental pressure-cooker at the heart of time, mere microseconds after the Big Bang, the Phoenix is a creature of raw spacetime. Constructed of the same vibrating, ephemeral math as gravity and atomic force, it wields control over the bonds that hold base matter together, letting it discorporate entire planets at will â?" or resurrect them. Coalesced into the cloned mortal frame of the powerful psionic Jean Grey, it experiences life as it is known to the lesser creatures of the universe for the first time. Locked into a paradigm in which the tyranny of cause and effect holds sway, it struggles to assimilate what it sees through the perspective of its host body. It is Jean through and through, for it has recreated not just her body, but her whole mind and soul as well, but it is also still the Phoenix. Moving through daily life in the body of a mortal woman it thinks and acts as she would, laughing, loving and fighting for her friends with all the power at its disposal. And yet the ordered flow of four-dimensional time weighs heavily on it. Despite its desire to do right, day by day, it can feel its control slipping away, slowly but surely. Posed for action with her cascading red â??hairâ?, this articulated figure is decked-out in her green-and-gold-colored â??attireâ?. Add this detailed action figure to your collection. |

Marvel Legends Icons: Jean Grey as Phoenix
|
| Review Date: March 18, 2010 |

From the pages of "X-Men: Endsong" comes this stellar Marvel Icons representation of original X-Man Jean Grey in her cosmic alter ego as Phoenix.
This over-sized, 12" action figure is most certainly well-produced, and its makers went the extra mile on the details by providing Jean with excellent facial features and stylish hair to give her a more vibrant, life-like appearance. Despite the fairly hefty cost, I would say the figure is an excellent investment for X-Men merchandise collectors and, most definitely, for Jean Grey's fans.
However, I am deducting one star for this reason: for the purposes of display, the figure simply won't stand up by itself for more than a few seconds. Her wedge-heeled boots are shaped in such a way that it becomes virtually impossible for the figure to stand without being propped up in some manner. And here's the ironic note: although there are holes in the bottom of her feet for pegs on a support base, the manufacturers inconveniently chose not to provide the support base. Go figure.
Finally, based upon the somewhat frail design of the figure's joints, my assessment is that this figure is probably for display only, and that it shouldn't be viewed as a toy for the 7 and under crowd. Hence, I have doubts about this toy's long-term durability if given to a child for play time.
Rating: 8.5/10 (Terrific investment, despite no support base provided) |
Looks good, but not made so well.

| This figure is sculpted really nice... except for a few things like having a really long neck and being way too skinny, even for a super hero :P (from the side she is practically flat). It doesn't stand up very well by itself and comes with no base or support. If you are planning to give this figure to a little one, it seems like some of the smaller parts like feet and hands could come off while they are playing with it. |
